City and Alliance Recognized For Excellence

During the last week of June 2018, the Association of Washington Cities met in Yakima, with nearly 300 cities represented. During that time, they gave recognition to the City of Walla Walla and the Walla Walla Alliance for the Homeless for its work to support those who are experiencing homelessness in our community.

The Walla Walla Alliance for the Homeless works to remove the barriers that keep the homelessness from moving on to better circumstances. The Sleeping Center provides those who are homeless the legally required place to be. Each night it houses 40 or more homeless individuals. In its first year of operation, The Sleeping Center served 231 individuals, providing more than 10,000 nights of safe sleep.

We hope that you will take a moment to read about the article of recognition in the My Columbia Basin.
